    2. What is Final Fantasy XIV's equivalent to a guild?

Answer: Currently, we have what is called a Linkshell system. But expect this to change after release with the brand-new Free Company system that's being implemented for 2.0.

    3. What are the starting points for FFXIV?

Answer: There are three cities currently that we have so far been able to start in: Limsa Lominsa (the quintessential port & pirate city), Ul'Dah (often considered a desert city by many; currently the home to commerce in Eorzea - whether it remains such is unknown for 2.0), & Gridania (the quintessential forest city).

[Fun Fact: each one takes inspiration & references from each of the three starting cities in this game's predecessor (FFXI): San d'Oria, Bastok, & Windurst.]

It is currently believed that as of 2.0, the class you choose to start out from inside the character creation menu will determine your starting city. (Like for instance, if you choose Marauder, you'll start in Limsa, Pugilists in Ul'dah, Archers in Gridania, etc. - wherever the guild is.)

    4. What are the races in Final Fantasy XIV?

Answer: There are five races, each divided into separate tribes: Lalafell (Plainsfolk & Dunesfolk), Roegadyn (Sea Wolves & Hellsguard), Elezen (Wildwood & Duskwight), Miqo'te (Keepers of the Moon & Seekers of the Sun), & Hyur (Midlanders & Highlanders). As of Final Fantasy XIV 2.0: A Realm Reborn, all genders of each race/tribe is playable (formerly the following selections were not playable: Female Roegadyn, Male Miqo'te, & Female Highlanders).

Okay, it seems I've hit a limit or something - getting a 403 error trying to post anything else, so I'll continue here:

    5. What are the different Disciplines & their classes/jobs in the Armory system?

Answer: There are 4 separate disciplines: Disciples of War, Disciples of Magic, Disciples of Land, & Disciples of Hand. Each one concentrates in a particular field in accordance with its name.

Disciples of War concentrate in being physical with the enemy and include: Archer (Bard), Gladiator (Paladin), Lancer (Dragoon), Marauder (Warrior), & Pugilist (Monk).

Disciples of Magic concentrate in magic. Currently there are only two classes that this discipline cover, but 2.0 is adding at least one more. In total they are: Conjurer (White Mage), Thaumaturge (Black Mage), & Arcanist (Scholar & Summoner).

Disciples of the Hand are the typical crafting classes, and it covers: Alchemist, Armorer, Blacksmith, Carpenter, Culinarian, Goldsmith, Leatherworker, & Weaver.

Disciples of the Land are the typical gathering class, and covers only three classes currently: Botanist, Fisher, & Miner.

    6. How does the Armory & Job system work?

Answer: Taken directly from the Official Final Fantasy XIV website -

    Eorzeapedia:

Similar to Limit Break gauges from previous Final Fantasy games. The TP bar ranges from 0 to 3000 points, and a Weapon Skill may be used as long as a character has enough TP to execute the attack. With enough TP, a player can theoretically use more than one weapon skill back to back.

TP is generally produced from successful melee attacks that hit for at least 1 damage point. The amount of TP gained per hit in Final Fantasy XIV is based on the amount of damage inflicted or received. TP is also gained any time you take damage from a melee or magical attack. TP automatically depletes when not in battle, and depletes even faster when in Passive Mode.
Monsters can also possess and use TP. Along with Weapon Skills, each monster species has its own set of unique special attacks on which they can use their TP.
    8. How will the servers work when 2.0 launches? Will they be international? Regional?

Answer: In FFXIV:ARR, both international & regional servers will be available from the start. The servers will be located where Square Enix is located in Japan (the Japanese servers are the international servers), the state of California inside the United States (North America Regional), & England (for Europe).

The servers were tested during Alpha to be able to handle up to 1,000 players at any one time in any area. I'm not completely sure but I would expect each server to be able to hold up to a minimum total population of 20,000.

During the beginning of 2.0, the veteran players from 1.x will be on servers tagged with their pre-2.0 names (eg. Balmung), and while new players will be able to join the 1.x-tagged servers, no character made pre-1.x will be able to transfer to a new server (at least until the restriction is lifted, estimated to be 6 months after launch).

    9. Will Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn be compatible with my system?

Answer: FFXIV:ARR will, as far as we know, be compatible with Windows 7 & 8 Operating Systems. Anything else is iffy, and system requirements will be provided ASAP. According to FFXIV:ARR Beta Application, however: Windows® XP 32bit, Windows® Vista 32/64bit, & Windows® 7 32/64 bit.

    10. What weapons are available in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn?

Answer: What will be available depends on what gets added, but in 1.x the following weapons were usable by playable characters: Bows, Fist Weapons, Giant Axes, Maces, Shields, Staves, & Swords. Books are confirmed as a new weapon in 2.0 with Arcanist's introduction.

    11. How about armor?

Answer: Also like above question's answer, what's currently available includes: Cloth, Leather, Chain, & Plate armor.

    12. What is a Grand Company? A Linkshell? A Free Company?

Answer: The Grand Companies act as this game's version of a faction, but currently due to the Garlean Empire they have become united & forcefully coexist now. The Linkshell was FFXI's version of a guild, while in FFXIV it'll become nothing more than a chat channel; the Free Company on the other hand will act as FFXIV's version of a guild, it'll be an alliance of multiple linkshells.

Another newbie guide that has some not so well known tips as well:

The following addition is amazing, in my opinion. Would of helped sooo many times in wow:

You can click on the NPC target icon over the NPC and activate them, useful for crowds of players. You can also hold CTRL to remove the ability to target players
